Our Story

Since 1973, The Apple Barn has been part of the rhythm of Southern Vermont.

What began as a simple roadside farm market for Southern Vermont Orchards has grown into a beloved Route 7 destination for locals, travelers, families, gardeners, and anyone passing through Bennington in search of something real, seasonal, and made with care.

For generations, The Apple Barn has been known for the things people come back for year after year: fresh cider doughnuts, pies, maple products, local foods, Vermont-made goods, gifts, pantry favorites, garden finds, and the kind of small-town welcome that makes a quick stop feel like a tradition.

In 2022, owner Sarah Albright stepped into The Apple Barn’s next chapter with a deep respect for its history and a vision for what it could continue to become. Today, The Apple Barn honors its roots while creating new reasons to gather — from seasonal events and craft markets to plant nights, food truck rallies, workshops, festivals, holiday traditions, and family-friendly experiences throughout the year.

At its heart, The Apple Barn is still what it has always been: a place to celebrate Vermont’s seasons, support local makers and growers, and bring people together under one red roof.

Whether you are stopping in for cider doughnuts, picking up a gift basket, browsing the greenhouse, ordering for a special occasion, or making The Apple Barn part of your annual fall tradition, we are grateful to be part of your story, too.

Ordering

  • Yes. We have select items available for online ordering.

  • Available online items include maple products, jams, jellies, applesauce, maple cream cookies, popcorn, and gift baskets.

  • For regular menu items, 24 hours is usually enough notice. For custom or large orders, please reach out at least one week before your event.

  • Some seasonal items may be available for pre-order. Please contact us directly for current availability.

  • Yes. We offer premade gift baskets and can also create custom gift baskets.

  • Yes. Custom gift baskets and select custom orders are available. Please contact us directly to discuss what you’re looking for.

  • Yes. We offer bulk orders on bakery items, maple products, gift items, and cider.

  • Yes. Pickup is available.

  • Not currently.

  • Yes. All products available for online purchase can also be shipped using USPS flat-rate shipping.

  • Orders can be cancelled up to 24 hours prior to pickup at no charge.

  • We accept all major credit cards and cash.

  • We carry maple products, including syrup, candies, cotton candy, spices, mustards, and more. We also offer bakery items, including apple cider donuts, honey, jams, jellies, gifts, souvenirs, cider, gardening supplies, ice cream, slushies, coffee, fudge, Vermont cheese, and more.

  • Seasonal products include produce, flowers, Christmas trees, and apples.

  • Yes. We sell apple cider, and it’s delicious.

  • Yes. We offer an array of fresh baked goods, including apple cider donuts, crumb cakes, muffins, scones, fritters, cheesecakes, pies, gluten-free items, and so much more.

  • Yes. We sell jams, preserves, honey, canned goods, and other local pantry items.

  • Yes. Our bakery items and fudge are made on-site. Our jarred products are made off-site.

  • Yes. We carry many local and Vermont-made products. We focus on local makers, farmers, and artists, including locally grown food, maple products, honey, Vermont cheeses, and more. Our honey comes from hives located on-site here at the Barn.

  • Yes. Allergen information is available for baked goods and food items. We also offer select allergen-free baked goods and food items.

Visiting

  • We’re open 7 days a week from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM through Thanksgiving.

  • Yes. We are closed in January, February, and March, then open 5 days a week through May. Hours may vary seasonally throughout the year.

  • The Apple Barn is located at 604 US Route 7 South in Bennington, Vermont.

  • Yes. We have ample parking, handicap-accessible spaces, and room for large vehicles and RVs.

  • Yes. The Apple Barn is handicap accessible.

  • Yes. Children are welcome.

  • No. Pets are not allowed.

  • Yes. Clean, handicap-accessible restrooms are available.

Events

  • Upcoming events can be found on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.

  • Most events are free and open to the public. Some workshops or special events may require tickets or registration.

  • RSVPs are not typically necessary. Vendors interested in participating in events should contact our vendor coordinator, Jenny, at jennydewfestivals@gmail.com.

  • Yes. Our events are designed with all ages in mind.

  • Events are held rain or shine. Vermont weather keeps things interesting, and we’ll be here through it all. Only severe weather that could impact our guests, vendors, or staff would cause us to postpone or cancel.

  • Yes. We have limited seasonal spaces available. Email us at theapplebarnvermont@gmail.com for more information.

  • Yes. We offer seasonal workshops, hands-on educational programming, and family-friendly activities throughout the year. Examples include wreath-making workshops, plant bingo, gardening classes, beneficial bug days, and story walks.
