Apple Barn Ushers in Pumpkins, Apples and Bowie the Clown
|
|
|
Bennington VT - The harvest is coming in at the Apple Barn & Country Bake Shop where visitors can get a jump on the season by picking their own pumpkins in the Apple Barn’s pumpkin patch. In addition, Bowie the Magic Clown conspires to offer a mixture of fun and laughter as families take advantage of the free children’s programming offered each weekend.
This year, Bowie spins a magical atmosphere sculpting animal balloons in between performing magic tricks with the audience starting at 1 pm on September 15. The Apple Barn’s free weekend productions offer some of the region’s most popular performances.
With the recognition received from Yankee Magazine, The Food Network, The Travel Channel and Good Morning America, the Apple Barn is known for its family atmosphere in which local and visiting families create their own tapestry of memories.
All this complements its famous bake shop where mouth watering aromas from its fresh-baked pies mix delicately with the sweet, tart smell of fresh produce offered every summer including corn, melons, and, of course apples and berries. This year, however,
The Apple Barn has transformed itself, eliminating the cluttered feeling and opening up the market for easier traffic flow. Its new offerings include a gourmet wine, cheese and food section, an old-fashion ice cream parlor and pies, breads and other treats. New pies are also on the menu including a Peach Praline, Four-Berry Pie and Lemon Blueberry along with Cherry Crumb Cake. Its traditional offerings of baked goods are complemented by local maple syrup, jams and preserves, specialty cheeses and apples – 45 different varieties of apples, harvested from nearby Southern Vermont Orchards each summer and fall. The Apple Barn retains its commitment to its free children’s programs during the fall along with Vermont’s oldest cornfield maze.
Family Focus Noting the lack of inexpensive or free children’s program in the area, The Apple Barn inaugurated its free annual series of puppetry, dancing, clowns, magic and nature programs designed specifically to provide children with an afternoon of adventure and fun.
Labor Day weekend ushers in its free children’s programming including return performances of The Puppet People, Bowie the Magic Clown, a nature presentation by Vermont Institute for Natural Sciences, No Strings Marionettes which will offer a unique make-your-own puppet workshop, and an annual motorcycle rally.

Named an Editors’ Choice in the Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England, The Apple Barn has become a must stop in Vermont. It has also been featured on The Food Network’s $40 A Day, Good Morning America, Ron Hazelton’s House Calls, NBC’s WNYT, CBSs WGRB, Vermont Public Television and Adelphia Cable.
The Apple Barn’s programming perfectly complements the Apple Barn’s non-profit art gallery. Proceeds are donated to – Spread Your Wing’s and Fly – established by Lia Diamond to honor her late mother Lucila Albinder. Proceeds go to the Center for Communication in Medicine. The Center educates all those within the sphere of illness on the complex role of communication in patient care. Diamond’s non-profit was prompted by a strong desire to give back to the community that has supported both Diamond and The Apple Barn.
In the midst of all this is its famous bake shop where mouth watering aromas from its fresh-baked pies mix delicately with the sweet, tart smell of fresh produce offered every summer including corn, melons, and, of course apples and berries. In fact, the apples have already started rolling in from the hills above Bennington where The Apple Barn’s Southern Vermont Orchards is located.

Bennington, VT – Wasabi…A Dragon's Tale is the headline performance scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at 1 pm at the Apple Barn and Country Bake Shop in Bennington. The free children’s programming is part of the Apple Barn’s fall schedule of special events which culminate in a bike rally at the end of the month.
In this modern-minded fairy tale, Princess Aja happily contemplates her upcoming marriage to Prince Olaf. Aja's perceptions promptly vanish when fire-breathing Wasabi swoops from the sky, reduces the palace to ashes and carries off her betrothed. The audience will be delighted as the spunky Princess, with a little help from her wise fairy friends, outwits Wasabi to save the kingdom and the day. Eleven exquisitely crafted marionettes perform amidst sumptuous, story-book scenery. A transforming sprite, a fashionable knight, and a seven-foot dragon partake in this newfangled fable, where imagination and the stage have no boundaries.Following Wasabi's adventure, No Strings' Dan Baginski and Barbara Paulson host an intimate question and answer session where everyone gets a closer look at the puppeteers trade. The pair have toured New England for over 10 years and are a perennial favorite for Apple Barn audiences. With the recognition received from Yankee Magazine, The Food Network, The Travel Channel and Good Morning America, the Apple Barn is known for its family atmosphere in which local and visiting families create their own tapestry of memories.
