Bennington VT - Mothers will be honored Mother's Day May 9 with a special treat ushering in the start of The Apple Barn & Country Bake Shop's 2004 season. Visitors will be able to tour the company's
Southern Vermont Orchards where apple blossoms dust the earthen hills with pink and white. Mom's will be given the Apple Barn's signature pastry The Apple Blossom - a light puffed apple-filled pastry topped with fresh whipped cream - recently featured on
WNYT's Let's Eat.

The Apple Barn is located in the heart of Apple Valley just south of Bennington. Mother's Day begins the entertainment season for The Apple Barn which offers activities with a focus on families. In addition to berry and pumpkin picking straight from the fields the company schedules a series of free children's activities in the fall aimed at entertaining children of all ages.
Beginning August 28 a steady stream of free children's events begin including No String's Marionettes' Treasure Hunt, Spoof Gabbling Circus, Bowey the Magic Clown, wildlife exhibitions featuring birds of prey and creatures of the night, Magic Man Tom Joyce and Dinoman! who will take kids on an interactive space journey.
The Sixth Annual Wine and Cheese Festival & Sampling Day slated for September 4 features Vermont's award-winning products including wines from North River Winery and the cheeses of Cabot Creameries. The sampling includes Apple Barn's own line of products from apples and baked goods to condiments. Specialty products include popcorn to jams jellies and fruit butters as well as barbeque sauce salsa and fruit honeys.
This is all in addition to the 30 varieties of apples grown by Southern Vermont Orchards and the 40 different kinds of pies that make entering the Apple Barn a real experience.

WNYT Channel 13 to highlight its signature baked goods as well as its upcoming Mother's Day celebration. Bennington's own bakery is gaining increasing national renown having already been featured on
The Food Network's $40 a Day,
Ron Hazelton’s House Calls and
Good Morning America as well as CBS's
WGRB and
Adelphia Cable. Its local and national exposure has made The Apple Barn a popular destination for Vermont visitors.
The Apple Barn does not disappoint visitors since the bakery aromas are reminiscent of long lazy days in Grandma's kitchen. The only thing missing is being able to lick the bowl. The Apple Barn also recalls the simple pleasure of visiting a country roadside stand. Tart red apples farmed from nearby
Southern Vermont Orchards mix in the summer time with a variety of produce picked fresh from local fields.
Recently re-opened for the season The Apple Barn is once again filled with the sweet tart smell of apples mingling with the warmth of fresh-baked fruit-filled delicacies along with a wide variety of fine baked goods specialty products and of course apples providing a taste of country Vermont. From its signature Apple Blossom to the 40 different pies that have completed many a family dessert its offerings this year include the signature Vermont Cheddar Apple Pie concocted last year and featured during the October appearance on WNYT Noon Let's Eat broadcast with Benita Zahn. The Vermont Cheddar Apple Pie is added to its normal menu of strawberry blackberry raspberry pumpkin and blueberry. In addition to the Vermont Apple Cheddar it's most popular pies include apple apple crisp and Bumbleberry a combination of delicious summer fruits.
The Apple Barn & Country Bake Shop also offers 13 different sugar-free pies. Its baked goods are complemented by a wide array of Apple Barn specialty products from popcorn to
jams, jellies and fruit butters as well as such condiments as barbeque sauce salsa and fruit honeys. The Apple Barn also offers specialty
pancake mixes and maple apple blueberry raspberry or apple-cranberry syrups. Its preserves and syrups come in sugar-free varieties as well. The Apple Barn also features Vermont products such as Cabot Cheese and wines from the North River Winery. Indeed these products and the 30 varieties of apples from nearby Southern Vermont Orchards are shipped in gift packs from the company's flourishing gift pack business.

pancake mixes and
syrups. Among the offerings are The Apple Barn's signature products including its Classic Vermont Apple Pie, Heavenly Chocolate Walnut the Infamous Bumbleberry and the Vermont Cheddar Cheese Apple Pie. Also offered are no-sugar versions of the fruit pies as well as a no-sugar Raspberry Pie. The company also includes apple cinnamon blueberry and buttermilk
pancake mixes a variety of
Vermont maple syrup and
homemade butters including apple pumpkin and no-sugar apple butter among its offerings. The Apple Barn's Classic Apple Pie is made from a secret family recipe of flour cane sugar cinnamon nutmeg and fresh apples picked from the company's Southern Vermont Orchards. The season kicks off on Saturday August 28 at 1 pm when Manchester’s Music Together gives a free performance allowing children to explore the rhythms and melodies of some of their favorite tunes. Debbi Zaccheo and Laura Molinelle-Clark teach kids to dance, clap, wiggle, and sing creating a live musical community for a good old fashioned Vermont Sing-A-Long.
On Sunday the circus comes to town as Mary Beth Seekam and Peter Spofford offer fun for all ages with its vaudeville-style comedy juggling show full of an ever changing array of tricks and surprises. Beginning at 1 pm on August 29 Spoof Gabbling Circus – voted New Hampshire’s best jugglers – offers unicycling balance, board stand up comedy, Poi swinging fire, and knife juggling, pillow twirling, and bouncy balls in a non-stop juggling and comedy act.

On Saturday September 11 Beth Bidwell executive director of the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York will discuss birds of prey offering a peak into the world of hawks owls and falcons and the special adaptations that put them on the top of the food web. Bidwell will present her wild friends at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. The Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York also conducts scientific research and provides expanded wildlife rehabilitation services.
On Sunday September 12 at 1:30 pm Dinoman! launches his space adventure covering the center of the solar system and what lies beyond Pluto with magic music and of course dinosaurs. The performance will reveal the heavens showing how all science is interconnected especially what space tells us about dinosaurs how they ended and how we know all about them. In addition a workshop will follow in which the audience can examine bugs in amber petrified wood and real dinosaur bones.

Bennington VT – Sophistication and fun are the order of the weekend as The Apple Barn & Country Bake Shop hosts two of its most popular annual events on September 4 and September 5. The Sixth Annual Wine & Cheese Festival will highlight Saturday’s events while The No Strings Marionettes will once again thrill audiences with a free performance of the beloved classic Treasure Hunt Sunday September 5 at 1 pm.
Activities on Saturday September 4 are part of the reason The Apple Barn was chosen as Editor’s Choice in Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England. The Apple Barn has become a must stop in Bennington. From noon to 3 pm the Wine & Cheese Festival gets into full swing with samples from Vermont’s award-winning wine and cheese products from North River Winery and Cabot Creamery. Participants will also be able to sample products from The Apple Barn’s own line which includes

preserves, and of course a

Adelphia Cable. The Apple Barn hosts Treasure Hunt as No Stings Marionettes takes center stage. The swashbuckling adventure begins with Jim being lured out to sea in search of adventure. During a wild storm Jim is thrown overboard and his underwater odyssey begins. An enchanted kiss from Jewel a young mermaid enables Jim to survive underwater to work through encounters with a giant clam, a fish that swallows him whole, an electric eel, and an angry octopus guarding its treasure. As the story unfolds Jim and Jewel learn of the threats to King Neptune’s realm from pollution. The two work toward finding what was lost and convincing the “dry-landers” to take better care of the real treasure their lakes and oceans and to live in harmony with nature.

and offering serious safety messages.

October is National Fire Prevention Month commemorating the anniversary of one of America’s great fire tragedies – The Great Chicago Fire. It has become an important educational opportunity for fire fighters across the nation to teach their communities about fire safety.
On Saturday The Bennington Rural Fire Department will show off its complete regalia of fire trucks hoses and giant ladders between Noon and 3 pm. Fire Fighters will demonstrate hoses and more practically home fire safety appliances such as fire extinguishers.
